Stephen Starkman made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 11, and has since established himself as one of the most versatile violinists today. He is a graduate of Juilliard and long-time violinist with the Pittsburgh Symphony. Starkman has also distinguished himself as a soloist, conductor, arranger and chamber musician appearing with more than a dozen orchestras nationwide, and on dozens of recordings, including his own critically accalimed CD, “Fiddler of the Opera.”

He has taught at universities, including Ohio University and Bard College, and has served as a musical director and conductor of youth and adult orchestras, including the Westchester Conservatory, Rhode Island Youth Orchestra (Music Director), Dutchess Community College, and Newark School of the Arts. He also served as Strings Coach for the Western Connecticut Youth Symphony. He holds a Master’s degree in Music from Indiana University.

Starkman has taught private violin and viola lessons to youth (aged 7 and up) and adults. He currently teaches in-person (Tampa-St Petersburg area) and online classes to students living throughout the U.S., England, Canada and China.

He is the founder, artistic direcor, and performer of a successful chamber music series in Pittsburgh, “Chamber Music at Rodef Shalom with Stephen Starkman and Friends.”
